OVERVIEW :

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for an Investment Analyst position.

We anticipate this to be a two-year fixed term appointment, depending on business needs.

Salary Range: $70,000 to $75,000

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

JOB SUMMARY

This position works closely with the Investment Director managing the University endowment and other investments.

A structured learning curriculum focused on:

Year 1:

  • Developing an understanding of the core principles of Endowment management
  • Learning about the systems and processes that support and inform portfolio management
  • Conducting research by reading, analyzing, thinking, reviewing financial documents
  • Participating in investment manager meetings; learning through presentations and discussion

Year 2:

  • Analyzing asset classes and fund investments to identify underlying risks and return drivers
  • An opportunity to expand your knowledge in key areas of investment analysis, due diligence, monitoring, and portfolio management
  • An opportunity to travel and attend investment conferences
  • An opportunity to participate and present to the Investment Committee

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Monitoring: Assist the Investment Director in monitoring existing investment managers across all asset classes:
    • Review materials received from investment managers on a quarterly basis
    • Participate in update calls and attend in-person meetings
    • Ensure each manager’s information is well documented and communicate relevant information to the team
    • Provide quantitative analysis of portfolio performance and exposures
    • Prepare summaries and provide conclusions and recommendations for portfolio changes
  • Due Diligence:
    • Perform quantitative analysis of prospective investment managers
    • Participate in investment manager diligence meetings, calls, visits
    • Take notes and document the interactions with investment managers
    • Prepare and present investment memo / recommendation to the team
  • Research
    • Conduct research on relevant investment topics – asset classes, strategies, geography, and / or sectors to support portfolio thematic and strategic investments
    • Other special projects, as needed
  • Other:
    • Assist with constructing Investment Committee and Subcommittee presentation materials
    • Participate and contribute to team discussions
    • Collaborate with operations manager and student interns
QUALIFICATIONS :

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or economics or related discipline
  • Willingness to travel domestically and abroad, approximately 10-20%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A passion for investing.
  • Ability to effectively develop relationships and credibility within the institutional asset management community.
  • Detail oriented, highly analytical with a curious and investigative approach to diligence and problem solving.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate and persuasively state and support a thesis within a collaborative culture.
  • Desire for a less-structured, generalist role.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and expertise in data and information management systems and processes, preferably with Backstop or a similar risk and performance management system.
