Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator Location Blacksburg, VA :

The Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator provides administrative and programmatic support as part of the Diversity, Inclusion, and Strategic Partnerships (DISP) team, and serves as the primary contact for diversity and inclusion-related program inquiries. The Coordinator effectively plans cultural and community events, including venue reservation, participant registration, catering arrangements, and event assessment, and supports initiatives by researching, collecting, and compiling information and data for our general operations. Additionally, the Coordinator contributes to collaborative efforts between DISP and other Graduate School and university units with focus on inclusion and diversity, including collaboration with the Graduate School's Ombuds Office in the areas of outreach and programming. This position also serves on the Graduate School generalist team, providing drop-in advising, referrals, and front desk coverage. Anticipated work hours: M-F 9-4, some evening and weekend work required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or college course work with relative years of related experience
  • Good written, verbal, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills
  • Administrative support experience
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet software and related database management
  • Must be able to maintain confidential materials, work accurately and independently, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to make independent decisions and exercise discretion
  • Ability to manage correspondence and create and lead presentations
  • Ability to interact with local, state, national agencies
  • Cultural competence and humility to work with diverse populations, both domestic and international

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Sociology, Human Development, or a related field
  • Previous experience working in a university or higher education environment
  • Proficiency with O365 and large database applications such as Banner
  • Experience working with university governance
